I just noticed that my informal, unscientific, and truly silly Best Burger in KC poll is closed and here I am to provide thought provoking analysis of the results.
In a nutshell, Westport Flea Market beats the shit out of everyone else.
This is not too surprising because it is just too well known as a good burger joint. I think it’s also probably wrong, but i really need to do some more empirical research on the subject. Oh yes, in second place? Who do you think?
None of the Above.
This was by no means an exhaustive list, but I thought I included all the important ones. So c’mon, leave a comment with your favorite places for a hamburger, especially if it didn’t make the list.
I was also surprised to see that Red Robin got a few votes. Red Robin people? What the hell? i know they have these crazy burgers with crazy toppings like avocado, pineapples slices, olives, can o’ corn, french onion soup….whatever…jesus, it’s chain food: DISQUALIFIED. But if you really love Red Robin and think their burgers are truly the tops, please, I’m begging you, please write an impassioned defense of the establishment in the comments. That would be hilarious.
Lastly, no one voted for “yer mama.” I was expecting at least one smart-ass to read this blog.
i’m gonna have to go with Grandstand, how did i miss the first round?
The Blue Moose. Hands down…damn good burger. Damn good bun. You can get it with added bacon and BBQ sauce which makes it even more delicious than the regular one.
They make a turkey version, too. Thanks to me. (My husband used to be one of the chefs there, and I bugged him and bugged him about getting a turkey burger on the menu. Cheaper meat that’s healthier than beef? Win/win! He created a turkey burger for them that has goat cheese and grilled onions on it. YUM!)
Haven’t eaten at most of them (other than the Flea). Red Robin was OK, mostly the innovative combinations wow people. Applebees tho sucks (no clue about their burger, I just don’t like em).
I know a lot of folks swear by Winstead’s but I prefer a more substantial burger.
For a drive thru, Backyard Burger wins.
But, I gotta say my favorite burgers have always come off of somebodys home BBQ.
Crap how could I forget winstead’s? I’m an idiot. And i never would have thought of the bluse moose. I’ll check it out–thanks!
The best burger in town in my opinion is at Hayes Hamburgers in the Northland. At the corner of Antioch & Vivion road. Can’t believe it wasn’t on the list.
Chef Burger in the power and light district has burst on the scene and surpassed Flea Market. Great choice of ingredients and condiments, plus they do a buffalo burger. Also, McCoy’s has a good bbq buffalo burger.
Yeah I made it down to Chef Burger last weekend and thought it was really, really good. I think the burger is better than flea market’s too, but the place lacks its delightful ambience.
Kitty’s.
Grandstand does it for me. Something about Westport Flea Market just doesn’t do it for me. There burgers are good, but I have had just as good or better at a number of places. Grandstand blew me away. Just eat it before it gets cold, since you probably will be taking it out. The place only seats about 5 people!
I’m a big Westport Flea Market fan, but if you’re further downtown, JP Wine Bar, the Bulldog and 12 Baltimore Cafe all have good burgers.
Town Topic or the Flea market. Nuke’s right about Backyard Burger , for a quick drive through they arent bad.
Here are some places in JoCo for you to check out for a great burger:
Austin’s, 151st and Mur-Len, Olathe
Trolley’s, 135th between Switzer and Antioch, OP
and personally, if you haven’t been there since you were a kid, go back and try Fuddruckers. I will always have a soft spot for that place.
Other really good burgers:
LC’s, Northland on Prairie View Road between 72nd and Barry Road
Delaware Cafe, River Market, 3rd and Delaware (only open M-F, 11-2)
Thanks ShawnF, I’ll check those out. Also, I think Delaware Cafe is open for dinner now and has a liquor license, but I haven’t checked it out yet. Used to eat lunch there all the time.
I went to “Westport Flea Market” last night and I must say my entire party was disappointed. The burger was moist, but lacking any flavor. The bun was very uninspiring. The biggest drawback was the atmosphere. Just too cluttered for my taste. The good point was the service. The waitress was very friendly.
Best cheeseburger in town: Walsh's Corner Cocktail. Houston's for a great chain burger!
[…] say, there are some good-looking lunch spots up there. Back in the early days of this blog, I wrote a post about burgers which is where I first heard about LC’s (thanks Jason, ShawnF and whoever else!). There are […]
